Former Orange County, CA, Sheriff Michael Carona has tarnished his department’s badge and betrayed the public trust.  This November 7, 2008, Los Angeles Times article written by Christine Hanley and headlined Don Haidl testifies he gave Michael Carona monthly cash bribes is a public corruption tutorial for citizens everywhere.

  1. According to the Orange County Register, “Don Haidl testified today that ex-sheriff Mike Carona doled out reserve badges and concealed weapons permits in exchange for money.” “I’m the sheriff, I can do what I want,” says Carona.

    If you can stand the uncensored language, here’s a link to an article with an excerpt from one of the undercover tapes of Carona and Haidl. Haidl was wearing the wire.
